私は、信念とは何かという疑問を元に、形を探りながら絵画を制作している。人の土台には大なり小なり神話がある。個人の中にある神話による信念に振り回されトラウマを患い通院した経験から、土台にある神話の力の根源を形を通じて探している。この「神話」とは、一般的に想起されるギリシャ神話や日本書紀などに分類されるものとは種類が異なる。「不敗神話」や「安全神話」などの方の意味合いを示している。双方のエネルギーのベクトルとしては同じなので、いわゆる神話にまつわることもモチーフにしうる。

見たことのない形を選ぶときに人はおおよそ自分の信念に従っていると考えている。その際に、画像編集ソフトや生成AIが作る自分の考えの及ばない形を提示されながら、自分自身でもその場の思い付きの形をなんとなくいれるようにしている。

モチーフは、様々なリサーチの中で知った偽書、陰謀論や偏った思想、依存症、間違った歴史など、神話となりうる信頼を揺るがすナラティブを選択することが多い。

反転する色合いを多用するのは、虚構を事実と信じ込まされてきた自分自身の世界がひっくり返る感覚による。

Miki Tanaka

1987 grew up in Tokyo

2016 Tokyo Zokei University BFA

currently studying at The Open University of Japan (Liberal arts)

I create paintings by exploring form, rooted in the question of what belief truly is. At the foundation of every person lies a personal or more collective myth, to a greater or lesser extent. Having experienced trauma and sought treatment after being overwhelmed by beliefs shaped by these personal myths, I now seek the source of the power within these foundational myths through form and color.

I believe people generally follow their own beliefs when choosing unfamiliar forms. In this process, while presented with shapes created by image editing software or generative AI that surpass my own imagination, I also instinctively incorporate shapes that come to mind on the spot.

My motifs often select narratives that could become myths—apocryphal texts, conspiracy theories, biased ideologies, addictions, distorted histories—all discovered through various research.

My frequent use of inverted color palettes stems from the sensation of my own world, long convinced that fiction was fact, being turned upside down.
